Professional Pest Control in the Southern Highlands Area - Since 1964

The European Wasp can be Deadly

EUROPEAN WASPS will sting repeatedly. The European Wasp is found throughout the Southern Highlands Area. The European Wasp may attack in large numbers. As a single motivated group they may sting repeatedly in a frenzy. In such circumstances, this feral pest can be highly dangerous to children, the infirmed and elderly.
EUROPEAN WASP sting will bring extreme pain. The sting of a European wasp is extremely painful - highly inflammatory - particularly if you are stung on the throat or other glandular parts of your body.
EUROPEAN WASPS - deadly concerns - European wasps love sweet sugars - BE CAREFUL particularly in summer  - they may to enter soft drink or beer cans. Deaths have occurred when people drink from such cans and swallow a European wasp - being stung in your throat can cause massive swelling and death by asphyxiation (suffocation).
PAPER WASPS are far less dangerous but they may be aggressive during hot weather periods and may cause severe localised pain from their sting. Paper wasps are about 20 mm in length, and should be approached with caution.

European Wasps - Identification - Nesting Locations

Identification: The European Wasp can be identified by the bright yellow and black stripes on it's abdomen in the pattern as depicted by the graphic on your left.
Paper Wasp has brown and orange stripes and is far less dangerous.
Nesting locations: European wasp nests are usually found in the ground, rockeries, tree stumps, wall cavities and roof voids. The Paper wasp is usually found in a small papery nest usually hanging from a horizontal surface, such as, on walls under ceilings, window sills, awnings, shrubs and similar locations.

Pest Control - European Wasps - Treatment Cost & Warranties

Locate the nest: If you see a European wasp on your property and want to help eradicate the danger imposed by this wasp, then then you could attempt carefully to find the source of the problem - the colony nest. This can be difficult as the main nest could be hundreds of metres from your residence.
WARNING: DO NOT attempt to eradicate a European Wasp nest yourself, unless you have the complete range of protective equipment and professional knowledge essential in the circumstances. Your action could induce the entire colony to swarm and attack as a group - a most dangerous situation.

The cost for professional pest control of European Wasps will depend upon many factors - the extent of infestation and ease of locating the colony nest.
Expect to pay approximately from $220 for an average size residential property and moderate infestation. The applicable service warranty period may vary depending upon the circumstances and the associated risk of reinfestation.

WARNING: The NSW Govt EPA Pest Control Licensing is INADEQUATE

Be Careful in selecting a Pest Controller Unfortunately - it is far too easy to get a NSW Govt EPA issued pest control licence and start up a Pest Control business in NSW with little experience in providing safe and effective pest control services click here for more details.
The NSW Pest Control Licensing system is subject to National Competency Assessment guidelines. Mediocre testing can be carried by Private Workplace Assessors (not part of TAFE system). The so called competency assessment can be a combination of oral, written and visual tests.
Private Workplace Assessors are given general guidelines in the National Competency Standards but there is no set standard test or specific knowledge requirements. Once privately assessed as "competent" then the NSW Govt EPA Pest Control Licensing will issue a pest control licence to the individual. There is no published list of Private Workplace Assessors..
The System is Inadequate: Some Private Assessors offer a one week course. A person so issued with a pest control licence can set up a Pest Control business (not required to register with EPA Licensing Authority and employ many trainees, using pesticides in people's homes without direct personal supervision.
